Safeguarding Policy Statement
ISTAC by Youth Untroubled is committed to protecting all children and young people who access our services and ensuring that they are safe from harm. This includes the children of adults who use our services. This policy applies to anyone working on behalf of Youth Untroubled including non-clinical colleagues. This policy has been created based on child protection legislation, policy and guidance that seeks to protect children in England.

We believe that children and young people should never experience abuse of any kind and we have a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children and young people, to keep them safe, and to practice in a way that protects them.

We recognise that the welfare of children and young people is of paramount importance in the work that we do and in all the decisions we make when working with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies. We will promote the safety and welfare of all children, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion/beliefs, sex, or sexual orientation and will ensure that they have an equal right to protection from all types of harm or abuse.

We also understand that some children are additionally vulnerable because of previous experiences, their level of dependency, communication needs or other issues and extra safeguarding may be required to adequately protect them.

We are committed to safeguarding children and young people who come from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, we are committed to safeguarding deaf and disabled children, LGBTQ+ children and children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

We will seek to keep children and young people safe by valuing, listening to and respecting them. We work with children who are often at increased risk due to their own behaviour and will work intensively with the parents and wider system to protect them, in some circumstances this means that the child is not part of the clinical sessions (e.g ISTAC/parenting consultations) but is always the focus of our safeguarding and protection.

We have two designated safeguarding leads within Youth Untroubled (Natasha Gold and Una O’Brien) and seek to create a safeguarding culture where staff, children, young people and their families, treat each other with respect and are comfortable about sharing concerns.

We will seek to keep adults safe by protecting the rights of adults to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. We will work in partnership with relevant agencies and organisations to reduce the risk and prevent the experience of abuse and neglect. We are committed to promoting adult wellbeing when taking action by capturing and taking account of their views, wishes, feelings and individual beliefs.
We are committed to reviewing our policy and good practice annually.
