ISTAC
DOMESTIC
VIOLENCE
Overcoming trauma and restoring connection
Intensive Systemic Therapy Around the Child for Domestic Violence (ISTAC DV), is an intensive, community-based treatment programme that has been specifically developed to address the multiple issues families may face in the aftermath of domestic abuse and during family breakdown/ children being placed outside of the home. ISTAC DV focuses on reducing risk of further harm by equipping the residing or potentially residing parent with the skills to nurture and safeguard their child/children, and works to repair any relational difficulties or attachment issues.
ISTAC DV addresses the multiple causal and contributing factors that may have led to a victim being at risk of domestic abuse, and/or failing to protect their children. ISTAC DV also addresses the trauma that the surviving parent and often children have experienced.
Adapted from the original ISTAC model, ISTAC DV is a cost-effective alternative to out-of-home placements and/or treatment for children where a parent has been unable to adequately protect them from harm.
